Mobility is one of the fundamental needs of people nowadays. Work, school and travels all require us to use means of transportation which can, at times, be harmful to the environment. We all know the pictures of big cities suffering from smog and crowded streets. I believe we have found a step towards the solution.
Electromobility showcasing the future
Out of the exhaust-fumed horizon sprouts a new creation: ‘VeMB’ (connected eMobility services for B2B clients).
An interesting venture supported by Bosch Software Innovations, Siemens and the Workgroup for Infrastructure Policy (WIP) at the TU Berlin. It aims to shed light on a combination of topics including mobility car-sharing, the charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, parking and public transportation.

By the end of 2015 several operating options will be analyzed and connected via the ‘Open Mobility Berlin’ platform. More mobility areas will work in conjunction under the joint leadership of Bosch Software Innovations and Siemens. One can take comfort knowing that engineers and scientists are putting their heads together to inspire and innovate not only future generations, but our generation right now.
The open interfaces of connected services the VeMB project provides are the basis for ‘emd’ (short for ‘enhanced, adaptive electromobility services: technology, development and deployment’). emd is aimed at developing combined and flexible mobility services for a number of users. Some examples are, but not limited to:
- Intermodal route planning: a combination of different modes of transport such as car sharing, public transport (focusing on busses and trains), and route design – depending on traffic and weather conditions
- Discovery and access to car parks: by using, for example, an existing car-sharing customer card
- Cross-use of mobility services: for example, switching, whilst on a business trip, between a car-sharing provider at the starting point and a car-sharing provider at the destination
A joint venture
Among the other project partners, in addition to Bosch Software Innovations, are the Company Orga Systems (a specialised provider of real-time billing services) and the Innovation Center for Mobility and Societal Change (InnoZ). Associated partners include BVG and the DB Fleet Service GmbH at the Berlin Transportation Company – they are also responsible for the well-known car-sharing service, Flinkster.
A service to all
